Publishing opportunity

Join the Curriculum Journal editorial board

The Curriculum Journal – BERA’s international peer-reviewed journal publishing original contributions to the study of curriculum theory and curriculum-making practices – is seeking academics, practitioners and policy actors to join its editorial board.

This opportunity is now closed.

The editors are inviting expressions of interest from academics, practitioners and policy actors who would like to join the editorial board for the Curriculum Journal. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development, success and strategic direction of the journal.

The Curriculum Journal has a single editorial board, with both UK-based and international members, which aims to be reflective of different curriculum traditions and perspectives, demographic factors (such as gender and ethnicity), as well as of the seven regions of the world. The editorial board will comprise:

  • up to 12 UK-based members (eight academics and two practitioners or policy actors), including at least two early-career researchers (defined as those in the process of completing a master’s degree or doctorate, or those who have completed such studies within the past five years); this UK-based membership reflects the positioning of the journal within the UK
  • up to 14 international members, with at least two members each representing the seven regions of the world
  • two members elected for their expertise in advanced quantitative research methods (please note the two current board members with this expertise are midway through their term, so we will not be recruiting for these roles at this time)
  • an independent chair elected by the new board.

Members of the board will be expected to support the journal in the following ways:

  • attend meetings, where possible
  • review articles (2–3 per year)
  • offer periodic advice (for example, on proposals for special issues)
  • actively promote the journal within their networks.

The new editorial board will be effective from 1 January 2023 and members will be appointed for three years. Members of the current editorial board who have only served one three-year term will be eligible to reapply for a second term. We especially welcome applications from early-career researchers.

You can find out more about the Curriculum Journal here. This notice should be read alongside the standard Terms of Reference for the management of BERA journals.

To apply, please click ‘Apply Now’ at the top of this page. You will need to provide a CV (maximum 3 pages) and a brief account (maximum 500 words) explaining what you would bring to the editorial board.

Applications close at 5pm on Monday 31 October 2022.

If you would like to discuss the matter further prior to submission, please contact Hannah Marston, BERA’s Publications Manager, on publications@bera.ac.uk.
