Higher Education Lecturer at University of Oxford

Ann Childs is an associate professor in science education at the University of Oxford. She teaches on the postgraduate certificate in education, and is director of the master’s in teacher education. She is involved in a number of research projects. In science education she is involved in two funded projects, the first to investigate the assessment of practical science and the second to develop religious education and science teachers’ use of argumentation as they work together collaboratively. She is also involved in a project with colleagues at Oxford looking at the issues and challenges that English as an additional language (EAL) students face in learning science. In teacher education she is involved in a pilot project to look at the assessment of teacher quality in a number of low- and middle-income countries, and is also supporting the Royal Academy in Bhutan to develop its teacher education and research.
