Mark Sheehan

Senior Lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington

Mark Sheehan is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Education, Victoria University of Wellington: Te Herenga Waka, and has been involved in the history education community for over 40 years as a secondary/tertiary teacher, textbook writer, researcher, consultant, museum educator and curriculum designer. His research interests connect with the intersection between history, education and memory. In particular, he is interested in the role of history in reconciliation (especially in regard to commemoration and remembrance) and historical consciousness, as well as how young people develop critical, evidence-based understandings of the past that are inclusive, allow space for different perspectives and encourage meaningful critique.
