Emma Rawlings Smith, Dr

Lecturer in Sustainability and Geography Education at University of Southampton

Emma Rawlings Smith is Lecturer in Geography Education at the Department of Education, University of Oxford where she teaches across postgraduate programmes. She taught 11-18 school geography in the UK and abroad for 15 years before moving into higher education. Emma's research interests include geography education, student transitions to university and the professional learning and identity of educators. Emma is a trustee and sits on the Council of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) as Honorary Secretary (Education), is a Chartered Geographer (& assessor thereof) and Chair of the Geographical Association’s Teacher Education Phase Committee. Her co-edited volume Encountering Ideas of Place in Education will be published by Routledge in December 2023.
