Emily Oxley, Dr

Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Love to Read) at University of Edinburgh

Emily Oxley is an early career researcher at the University of Edinburgh and former French and German secondary school teacher. Currently, Emily is a postdoctoral researcher working on the Love to Read project to inspire and sustain a love of reading in primary-aged children. Emily’s interest in language and literacy development originated from a master’s in linguistics at Newcastle University, in particular a module about enabling lesser literate second language learners to read for pleasure which inspired her to begin an ESRC-funded PhD at the University of Leeds to understand the vocabulary development of children with English as an additional language. As an avid reader, Emily enjoys understanding the factors which motivate children to read and the barriers which stop some children reading for pleasure.
