Join the Curriculum Journal editorial board

The Curriculum Journal – BERA’s international peer-reviewed journal featuring original contributions to the study of curriculum, pedagogy and assessment – is refreshing the membership of its editorial boards.

The editors are seeking expressions of interest from academics and practitioners/policy actors who would like to join either the UK-based board or an international board. They aim to make both bodies reflective of different curriculum traditions and perspectives, demographic factors (such as gender and ethnicity), as well as of the seven regions of the world. It is proposed that the new board will be effected from 1 January 2020.

Please send expressions of interest – including a CV and/or link to your professional profile, and a brief account of what you would bring to the role – to publications@bera.ac.uk by Thursday, 31 October.

The proposed new structure of the Curriculum Journal’s boards will be:

  • a UK-based membership, reflecting the positioning of the journal within the UK, combrised of up to 12 members (eight academics, four practitioners/policy actors), including at least one early-career researcher
  • an international board of up to 14 members, with one-to-two members each representing the seven regions of the world.
  • an independent chair elected by the new board.

Members of the new board will be expected to support the journal in the following ways.

  • UK-based academics will
    • attend meetings
    • review articles
    • offer periodic advice (on, for example, proposals for special issues
    • actively promote the journal within their networks.
  • UK-based practitioners and policy actors will
    • attend meetings
    • review articles on an occasional basis if there is an applicable match with their expertise
    • offer periodic advice (on, for example, proposals for special issues)
    • take leading role in supporting editors on a proposed new feature for the journal, namely practitioner and policy voices on emerging themes in curriculum
    • actively promote the journal within their networks.
  • International academics will be prominent scholars in the field of curriculum, whose international reputation will enhance the profile of the journal. It is expected that they will:
    • actively promote the journal within their networks
    • review articles
    • offer periodic advice (on, for example, proposals for special issues)
    • attend board meetings (either in person, if present at the BERA Annual Conference, or remotely).
