Independent researchers: The challenges of accessing ethical approval

Independent educational researchers, unaffiliated to higher education institutions, often face great difficulty in gaining ethical approval to carry out their research – which means that the field is missing out on a wealth of valuable studies and evidence.

Arising from a recent BERA event attended by both independent researchers and experts in publishing and the legal aspects of ethics, this series of blogs offers the perspectives of a diverse group of authors on this seemingly perennial problem and how it should be solved.
