Janet Soler, Dr

Senior Lecturer at The Open University Milton Keynes

Dr Soler is a senior lecturer, chair of modules in the inclusive practice pathway, Area G Coordinator for the Language and Literacy area in the Educational Doctorate Programme, and convenor for the British Educational Research Associations’ Literacy and Language Special Interest Group.

She has worked as a teacher, researcher and university lecturer in New Zealand and the United Kingdom, where she has researched and taught in areas related to literacy, educational policy and the history of education, developing modules and research projects related to critical literacy, literacy and reading policy, focusing on increasing participation and critical engagement through online learning.

She is currently working on a research project investigating the historical development of educational psychology and how it has influenced educators’ views of literacy difficulties such as dyslexia.

She has also recently been exploring areas related to ‘fake news’ and its implications for critical literacy.
