Walter Omar Kohan

Professor at State University of Rio de Janeiro

Walter Omar Kohan holds a PhD in philosophy from Iberoamericana University mentored by Matthew Lipman, and did post-doctoral studies in philosophy at the University of Paris 8. He is a professor at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and a senior researcher of the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development (CNPQ, Brazil) and of the Foundation of Support of Research of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ, Brazil). His books published in English include: Childhood, Education and Philosophy: New Ideas for an old Relationship (Routledge, 2015), The Inventive Schoolmaster (Sense, 2015), Thinking Childhood and Time: Contemporary Perspectives on the Politics of Education (Lexington, 2020) and Paulo Freire: A Philosophical Biography (Bloomsbury, 2021). His most recent book published in Portuguese is Paulo Freire: um menino de 100 anos (Rio de Janeiro: NEFI, 2021), available for free download at filoeduc.org/editora.
