Kerry Assemakis, Mrs

Senior Lecturer at St Mary's University

Kerry Assemakis is a senior lecturer in Primary English at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, where she teaches on both postgraduate and undergraduate programmes. Prior to joining St Mary’s, Kerry worked as a teacher in primary schools, was a subject lead for English, and she also held the role of a Lead Literacy Teacher in her local borough. Kerry is passionate about teaching and learning in Primary English, and especially about reading for pleasure and developing teachers’ identity and confidence as writers. For her MA, Kerry completed research that focused on student teachers as creative writers and is currently leading a joint research project on teacher-writer identity and the impact this has on teaching and learning. Alongside a colleague, Kerry received a commendation from the St Mary’s University Walpole prize in recognition for her work with student teachers as writers. Kerry co-runs an Open University/United Kingdom Literacy Association Teachers’ Reading Group with her colleagues, and co-runs creative writing professional development for teachers in London primary schools. Kerry is currently a doctoral student at St Mary’s University undertaking research that focusses on visual literacies.
