Jo Van Herwegen, Dr

Associate Professor at Institute of Education

Jo Van Herwegen is an associate professor at the Institute of Education in UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society, and is a director of the Child Development and Learning Difficulties lab. Her research focuses on improving educational outcomes, especially for neurodiverse students, using evidence from developmental psychology and educational neuroscience.

She is currently Head of Research for the department of Psychology and Human Development and member of the executive committee for the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI). She has been leading on a number of studies, including as Co-PI for a large international study on the impact of Covid-19 for individuals with special educational needs and as PI for the TRanSEND study funded by the Baily Thomas Charitable Fund. Jo has co-edited two books and has written more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Her research has been funded by a number of charities and research councils, including the Education Endowment Foundation, the Nuffield Foundation, UKRI and ESRC.
