PhD Student at University of Cambridge

Jingyun Zhang is a PhD student at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge. She is now a member in the Mathematics Education Research Group (MERG) and the Centre for Research on Play in Education, Development, and Learning (PEDAL). Her doctoral research focuses on exploring what mathematics learning discourses and subjectivities are constructed by key stakeholders when Chinese children transition from preschool’s Anji Play model to primary school’s exam-oriented education system. Within a post-structuralist paradigm, her research hopes to contribute to the international literature exploring localised play-based pedagogies (particularly in the context of the Global South). Jingyun has also initiated and run a non-profit academic organisation called PeekabooForum, aiming to present diverse empirical studies and real-life stories about children and childhoods, which now has over 3,000 followers and over 100,000 readers cumulatively.
