Geoff Lewis, Dr

Postdoctoral researcher at University of Warwick

Geoff Lewis is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Education Studies at the University of Warwick. His PhD focused on understanding the fine-grained factors that shape the work of early career teachers and teaching assistants in schools. His 2023 paper, ‘The classroom deployment of teaching assistants (TAs) in England: A critical review of literature from 2010 to 2020’, used ideas from practice theory to demonstrate how existing models of effective TA deployment can and should be supplemented with careful attention to the contextual features that shape these practices at specific sites. Currently, he is leading an ESRC-funded impact project that aims to work with preservice teachers, early career teachers and teaching assistants to develop equitable and inclusive approaches to teaching assistant deployment in the primary classroom. Prior to this, Geoff worked in primary schools across a variety of roles, including senior leader and special educational needs coordinator.
