Catherine Mahoney

Associate Professor at Edinburgh Napier University

Dr Catherine Mahoney is Associate Professor, Associate Dean in Learning and Teaching and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy at Edinburgh Napier University. Catherine registered as a nurse in 1998 and then Nurse Teacher 2009. Research has included studies on the impact of real-world active learning using drama, technology-enriched learning at scale, with a view to improving student engagement and understanding. Further research focuses on the professional development and wellbeing of the nursing workforce, including exploring the health-related behaviours of nurses and evaluating the acceptability of technology to enhance workforce health. Expertise in curriculum design and pedagogy has enabled international and national collaboration with Australia, US and New Zealand. Current leadership includes membership of the senior leadership team in the School of Health and Social Care, line management of teaching and research colleagues, successful and ongoing PhD and master’s supervision and co-lead for simulation-based education.
