Black History Month 2022

Led by our Race Equality Policy and Action Plan, BERA has a number of activities which are specifically concerned with tackling racial discrimination within education. This policy commits us to monitoring our selection and assessment criteria and procedures to ensure that these do not discriminate unfairly or perpetuate inequalities, and to improve support and mentoring for BAME members.

In celebration of Black History Month 2022, on this page BERA will bring together our recent work and activities on diversity and inclusion.

Over the next month below you will find:

  • Our BERA 2022 Keynote David Olusoga “in Conversation with” Rachel C. Boyle. In this enlightening conversation David tackles key issues surrounding colonialism, race and contemporary culture in the UK.

  • New events on Race Diversity in Education. These events stem from our Race Equality in Education project.

  • Two issues of BERA’s magazine Research Intelligence, made open access for October.

    • Issue 151 “Pandemic, protests, recovery, opportunities: Repositioning of educational research, teaching & learning”
    • Issue 142 “Decolonising the curriculum: Transnational perspectives”
