BERA Conference Preparation Series: Practical Skills for Confident Participation

This series of supportive, interactive sessions is designed to equip researchers—particularly those who are early in their careers—with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to fully engage with the BERA Conference, whether as a presenter, session chair, or peer reviewer. Led by members of the Conference and Events Committee, each session focuses on a vital aspect of conference participation and provides a space for learning, discussion, and collaboration.

Sessions in the series include:

  • Peer Reviewing Conference Abstracts – A collaborative session focused on developing a balanced, constructive approach to abstract review through discussion of anonymised examples and shared criteria.

  • Chairing Conference Sessions – Covering the core responsibilities of session chairs, from timekeeping to promoting inclusive discussions, and working through real-life scenarios to build confidence in the role.

  • Designing Effective Conference Posters – A hands-on workshop to help early career researchers craft visually engaging posters (print and digital) that clearly communicate their research and invite meaningful conversation.

Whether you are preparing to present, review, or facilitate sessions, this series offers practical guidance and peer support to help you navigate and contribute to the BERA Conference with clarity and confidence. All are welcome.
