Publishing opportunity

Editorship of the British Journal of Educational Technology (BJET)

This opportunity is now closed.

BERA is offering an exciting opportunity for a team of editors to take on the editorship of the British Journal of Educational Technology (BJET) from the start of 2023. This opportunity has arisen because the term of the current team of editors for BJET will be coming to an end in December 2022, and an open call for editors is required at this point, in accordance with the Terms of Reference for the BERA Journals. BERA is now inviting applications from all interested and eligible scholars (including the existing editors).

BJET is a primary source for academics and professionals in the fields of digital educational and training technology throughout the world. The Journal is published by Wiley on behalf of BERA, and its content is overseen on behalf of the Association by an Editor or Editors.

BJET’s Impact Factor is 5.268 and the Journal ranks 23rd out of 267 in the Education and Educational Research category whilst being ranked 2nd globally out of generic Educational Technology journals. The current team have seen a significant growth in the Journal – both in terms of articles published and its impact factor. BERA is delighted by the success of the Journal and is keen to see that built on.

The appointed Editorial Team will take responsibility for the content and editorial direction of the Journal within the aims and scope agreed by BERA’s Publications Committee. They will work closely with an active and engaged Editorial Board, a broad range of reviewers, and an enthusiastic and effective team at Wiley.

Full details of the expectations, opportunities and application process can be downloaded from this page. This notice should also be read alongside the standard Terms of Reference for the management of BERA Journals.

While applications are not restricted to UK-based scholars, we expect any proposed team to include a significant proportion of UK-based academics for both practical and editorial reasons. The team as a whole will need to demonstrate a connection to and understanding of the research landscape in the UK and also be available for in-person meetings with one another, the publisher and BERA.

To apply, teams should set out in an accompanying statement the following elements:

  • Their vision and ambitions for the Journal.
  • Relevant experience in the field.
  • How they plan to operate including the division of responsibilities within any team.

Please provide a short CV (2–3 pages) for each proposed editor. The CVs should be collated into one single document.

The deadline for applications is 12pm on Monday 25th July 2022.

Please note members of the current editorial team are eligible to apply.

If you are interested in submitting a proposal and would like to discuss the matter further prior to submission, then please contact Hannah Marston, BERA Publications Manager on publications@bera.ac.uk.
