Translating and embedding evidence into policy and practice is a crucial stage in the research cycle for education, but one that is not given much attention. Governments, funders and researchers worldwide have made some improvements in generating high quality research. However, there have not been consolidated discussions in the field of education on examples, success, failure, challenges and the barriers to translating this evidence into practice and policy.

We are therefore calling for contributions to a special issue of Review of Education, to publish in 2022, that will focus on robust evidence use in policy and practice. It will showcase individual studies, collections of studies, or fields of investigation that have examined the use of evidence and produced findings that contribute to our knowledge of how evidence can successfully be implemented in policy and/or practice.

We are seeking high-quality papers that use innovative methodologies and rigorous research designs, and which are of practical significance. We are also happy to include thought/conceptual pieces that take the field forward in a clear and important manner.

Review of Education specialises in publishing substantial papers (8,000–20,000 words) of the highest quality from across the field of education that have a genuinely international reach and orientation.

The important dates and submission process are as follows.

• Deadline for proposal submission: 1 August 2021
• Notification of proposal acceptance: 30 August 2021
• Deadline for full manuscript submissions: 15 October 2021
• Manuscripts returned to authors for revision: 15 November 2021
• Final manuscripts due: 15 December 2021
• Publication: March 2022 (estimate)

Proposals should be 750–1,000 words in length, including an overview, major theoretical or conceptual frameworks used in your study, research methods and (preliminary) findings. Please email your proposal to Dr Nadia Siddiqui (nadia.siddiqui@durham.ac.uk) by 1 August 2021.

Final papers should normally be between 8,000 and 20,000 words. After proposals are accepted, full manuscripts should be submitted via ScholarOne, which RoE uses for its peer review process. The review process will be fast-tracked for papers that are part of this special issue.
