Online event – pre-registration essential
The 21st century is offering a new set of challenges and opportunities for education. This event takes a forward-facing approach to the future by exploring two areas of activity likely to drive change (cognitive neuroscience and climate change education). It will first examine the role of cognitive neuroscience in initial teacher education and in empowering teachers with a critical understanding of their practice. It will then take climate change education as an area of curriculum in urgent need of development, examining various possibilities for change, informed by recently collected data revealing the views of teachers. Finally, it analyses the potential role of cognitive neuroscience in developing and implementing a new climate change curriculum. This last presentation provides an in-depth example of how the burgeoning sciences of the mind and brain may support education in the 21st century.
