Omena Osivwemu is an Equalities Policy Officer (race and gender) at the National Education Union, and a PhD candidate in Education at the University of Cambridge. She is formerly an experienced Primary School Teacher, Humanities Lead and School Governor across England and Spain. Omena also works on projects as an education and community research consultant with the Black Curriculum and BLAM UK. Over her career she has produced commissioned teaching and classroom resources, consulted for publishers, youth and community organisations, and continues to write and speak on antiracism and decoloniality in education.
Omena contributed to BERA’s 'Guide to Decolonising the Curriculum' (2024), detailing her international MA research project, funded by UCL London and the Turing Scheme, exploring Black learner and educator perspectives of decolonising the curriculum in London and Johannesburg, South Africa.
