Nicola Savvides, Dr

Senior Lecturer in International Education at University of Bath

I am a Senior Lecturer in International Education and joined the Department for Education at the University of Bath in September 2017. I am Director of Studies for the MA International Education and Globalisation and teach across several postgraduate programmes in the department. I also supervise doctoral students. My research interests include International and Intercultural Education; International and European Schools; Internationalisation of Higher Education; Global Citizenship Education; Comparative Education. I have worked on numerous funded collaborative research projects in these and other areas. I am currently co-investigator on an Erasmus-funded project looking at risk factors that lead to young people falling out of education, training and employment across five European countries, with a view to developing an intervention strategy. I am also conducting case-study research of intercultural education and global citizenship on a UWC short course.
Externally, I am an Executive Committee member of the British Association for International and Comparative Education (BAICE) and Honorary Senior Research Associate at the Institute of Education, University of London, based at the International Centre for Intercultural Studies. I am on the editorial boards of Compare, Intercultural Education, and Research in Comparative and International Education. Prior to joining Bath, I worked as a Lecturer in Higher Education at Kings College London and as a Lecturer in Education at Durham University. I have held numerous academic appointments across a range of UK universities following completion of my ESRC 1+3 funded doctorate in Education at the University of Oxford in 2009, where I also completed two Masters degrees in Comparative and International Education and in Educational Research Methodology.
