Jane Davies, Dr

Dr Jane Davies is an Associate Professor at Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, England. She worked as a primary school teacher in the United Kingdom and for the British Council in Spain for ten years and has over twenty years’ experience working in teacher education. She has a particular interest in cultivating a research culture amongst trainee teachers, and supporting their academic literacy. Her research interests focus on issues relating to social justice, and in particular how teacher education can prepare the next generation of teachers to become inclusive practitioners. She has co-supervised a number of PhD studies including the consideration of non-binary pupils, and the nature of equality training with a focus on the Gypsy, Roma, Traveller community. Jane has worked on a number of funded research projects, including: considering how children are grouped for their learning in schools; how trainee teachers should learn about race equality, and most recently, considering the use of simulated learning experiences in teacher training. She has worked with colleagues to develop this area of her practice to work with a partnership school, delivering a continuing professional development session to qualified teachers with a focus on learners with English as an Additional Language (EAL).
