BERA Council

Gabrielle Ivinson, Professor

Professor of Education and Community at Manchester Metropolitan University

Gabrielle Ivinson’s primary research involves developing creative methodologies to engage communities and vulnerable young people and children living in post industrial areas (rural and urban) in times of austerity politics. Gabrielle is interested in the boundaries between public institutions such as schools, theaters, sports facilities and marginalised communities and how this relates to social equality and civic participation.

Gabrielle has a long-standing interest in gender and education and specifically in how marginalised groups are prevented from gaining access to scientific languages, imaginaries and social identities for a wide range of reasons, especially due to cultural and historical legacies. Gabrielle was elected to BERA Council in 2017.
