David Higginbottom, Mr

Assistant Headteacher at GFM Education (Bay House School and Brune Park School)

David is a School Improvement Lead at HISP Multi Academy Trust and is the Early Career Teacher Lead for HISP Teaching School Hub. With ten years of teaching experience, as a Geography teacher in the secondary sector and with teaching experience in the primary sector, David is now part of a team driving school improvement across the HISP (Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Southampton, and Portsmouth) Multi Academy Trust. He has been a Sixth Form coordinator for Geography, a pastoral tutor, and an accredited Lead Practitioner. David has worked with trainee teachers and early career phase teachers for much of his career, supporting and mentoring PGCE trainees, NQTs and facilitating training for School Direct and SCITT trainees. He has presented at numerous teaching and learning conferences and has delivered evidence-informed CPD to colleagues within multiple schools. In recent years, David has delivered the taught programme on the Secondary PGCE Geography course at the University of Southampton, has been a member of the University of Southampton’s mentorship working party group. He now plays a lead role, through his work with HISP Teaching School Hub, in the development of Early Career Teachers and their mentors across the HISP Teaching School Hub regions. David has a firm belief that collaborative working, evidenced-informed teaching and sharing best practice is at the heart of sustainable school improvement and he is passionate about enabling and supporting colleagues to engage in rigorous educational enquiry and research in order to drive ‘next practice’ through enhanced understanding.
