Aina Tarabini, Professor

Associate Professor - Sociology at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona

Aina Tarabini is Associate Professor in the Sociology Department at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and researcher in the research groups GEPS (Globalisation, Education and Social Policy) and IGEP (Interdiscipliary Group on Education Policies). She is specialist in sociology of education and in the analysis of educational inequalities and policies. She has participated and coordinated numerous research projects both nationally and internationally and she has worked as a consultant for organisations such as Fundació Jaume Bofill, UNICEF or Save the Children. Her research is concerned with social inequalities and their educational repercussions at three levels: actors’ subjectivities, educational practices and everyday actions; schools’ practices and pedagogical devices; educational policies and programmes. Particularly, her projects focus on educational transitions and processes of educational failure, success, and Early School Leaving. She has been the principal investigator of the R+D Project: “ABJOVES. Early school leaving in Spain. An analysis of young people’s decisions, motivations and educational strategies” for the period 2013-2016. Currently she is the principal researcher of the project “Edupost16. The construction of post-16 educational opportunities. An analysis of post-compulsory educational transitions in urban settings”.
