SIG Meet & Discuss: Sexualities and Gender

This Sexualities & Gender SIG provides a space to critically engage with how gender and sexuality research matters in the inter-disciplinary field of education and how this research can inform policy, practice and pedagogy. In this forum we aim to co-produce a SIG event with members exploring the current state of sexualities and gender in education.

Gender and sexualities continue to be a contested and politicised terrain in educational policy and practice, with profound impacts on children and young people’s wellbeing. In 2025/26, the Sexualities & Gender SIG will facilitate a series of events that offer critical perspectives on policy and public responses to gender inclusive education in the UK and internationally. We hope these events will foster a productive dialogue on how educational researchers and practitioners can respond to contemporary anti-gender discourses, as well as inform Sexualities & Gender SIG position statements on recent UK policy developments in the field of sexualities and gender in education (e.g RSE guidance, Guidance for Gender Questioning Children). We also invite BERA members from other SIGs who would like to engage with those urgent debates
