Jane Spilsbury, Mrs

Senior lecturer primary education at Edge Hill University

As Senior Lecturer for Primary and Early Childhood studies, I am dedicated to enhancing learning and development across both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. In my current role as Year 3 Lead for the primary undergraduate school-based programme, I coordinate course delivery, work closely with module leaders and tutors, and ensure consistency and quality, engaging with student feedback to promote continuous improvement and manage change effectively. I support students and mentors during professional placements as link tutor, ensuring effective communication, and maintaining quality assurance between partner schools and the university. Additionally, as a Personal Academic Tutor, I focus on students’ academic, personal, and professional development with a focus on wellbeing. I am also an Associate Teaching and Learning Fellow and a member of the University Academic Board, actively contributing to academic integrity and effectiveness across the faculty. In my previous role as PGCE Primary Placement Quality Assurance Lead, I ensured that our students received high-quality learning opportunities throughout their placements and facilitated interventions and support plans where appropriate to ensure our students received the best possible outcomes during practice. I also led the English as an Additional Language Strand, overseeing curriculum content and delivery across both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, alongside staff professional development. Before transitioning to academia, I gained extensive experience in primary schools, having worked across all year groups from EYFS to Year 6. As an Assistant Headteacher, I led multiple areas including EYFS, Key Stage 1, Mathematics, Science, SSP, and Reading, and I am also a qualified LSA.
