Samantha Parkes, Dr

Senior Lecturer & School Improvement Specialist (Mathematics) at University of Chichester

Sam has worked as a teacher across primary, mathematics leader, and assistant headteacher. She has supported CPD in various schools, focusing on mathematical reasoning, questioning, developing learner agency, working with parents and curriculum design. In collaboration with the University of Chichester’s Academy Trust, she co-developed and led the implementation of a professional learning model centred on enquiry and andragogy.
Sam’s research interests also include mathematics teaching and evaluation. She is particularly focused on communities of practice, leading sustainable change, inclusive learning cultures, playful pedagogy, and the impact of educational policy on classroom practice. Sam was awarded a Doctorate in Education by University of Reading. Her thesis, ‘Beyond a Checklist?’, is a multiple case study exploring perceptions and experiences of teachers, MSLs, and SLs in evaluating primary mathematics teaching.
