Merely talking about recovery is far too narrow. ‘Recovery’ implies a return to what we had before, which is simply not good enough. Now we need to build a system that is stronger and fairer than the one we know.” Kate Green, the shadow education secretary, Labour Party Conference, Brighton.
As educational institutions return to ‘business as usual’ for the first time in 18 months. We want to open the dialogue and stimulate debate around the’ recovery’ process and what this means for leaders of these institutions. Do leaders need to plan for recovery or are they simply defining a new normal by choosing what practices to keep and which to discard? Either way, what will this look like in everyday practice, what is the long-term impact of these plans on educational institutions and how will they be scrutinised by stakeholders?
Following the educational leadership theme of post pandemic leadership and in line with BERA’s strategic priority to increase capacity within the ECR field, we would like to invite ECR’s to share their conceptualisation of the field of post pandemic recovery and share their ideas of the emerging themes for educational leaders? For example, the integration of technology and how the pandemic has accelerated this? How curriculum plans may change? How strategic priorities within these institutions may have changed?
This event provides an opportunity for Educational Leadership ECR’s (those who are thinking about, in the process of or have recently completed doctoral studies) to offer a flash presentation of their research into educational leadership theory and practice throughout and beyond the pandemic.
