BERA Ethical Guidelines – Revising editor

Published in their first edition in 1992, BERA’s Ethical Guidelines are an invaluable, much read and widely cited resource that supports educational researchers to conduct research to the highest ethical standards in any and all contexts.
Periodically, BERA undertakes a review and revision of these Guidelines and we are looking to publish an updated version in 2024. A review group has looked at the current Guidelines, compared to wider developments in ethical research and commissioned position papers on areas not currently covered by the Guidelines.
BERA now believes that the Guidelines need an experienced editor to redraft certain sections, bring in their own expertise and propose amendments for the next edition. As such, BERA is looking to engage a senior academic with strong editorial skills, extensive experience and understanding of ethical issues in conducting research and an appreciation of how the Guidelines are used by researchers. They will be empowered to review the work undertaken already but make their own recommendations about revisions. They will report directly to BERA’s Leadership Committee.
Applications should be sent to jobs@bera.ac.uk and arrive by 5pm on Monday 21st November 2022.
