BERA Blog Editorial Manager – Temporary Role

We are seeking a part-time manager for the BERA Blog who can take on the following aspects of the role:

  • Managing submissions as they come into BERA
  • Commissioning and soliciting Blogs, including making use of BERA events, journals and other outputs for likely ideas as well as an understanding of the wider research environment.
  • Liaising with the academic editors of the Blog over reviews and revised versions.
  • Liaising with external copyeditors and/or undertaking some copywriting themselves, within our existing style guidelines.
  • Liaising between authors and editors over revisions and updates.
  • Ensuring final copy including author profiles & photos are ready for publication.
  • Overseeing the publication process, including liaising with BERA staff over timing and promotion as well as drafting some promotional material and with authors ensuring they are notified in advance of publication.
  • Producing regular analysis of Blog readership.

This role is currently offered for 1-2 days per week until the end of May 2022 but thereafter may be extended or revised.

The work is expected to be primarily undertaken remotely with some access to BERA IT systems. We would prefer the work to be conducted across the working week rather than simply concentrated on a single day.

We would also be interested in candidates who express a willingness to take on some additional publication tasks for the organisation – these would include the preparation and publication of research digests and reports.

Detailed information on the processes outlined above will be provided to the successful candidate.

Further details about the Blog can be found here – https://www.bera.ac.uk/blog
