BERA Masters Dissertation Award Winner 2015

BERA is delighted to announce that the winner of this year’s Masters Dissertation Award is Alvin Leung, University of Cambridge.
Alvin’s dissertation took a critical look at discourses of nation and identity in post-colonial Hong Kong.

His supervisor Dr Philip Gardner commented: “Alvin’s thesis comprises a study examining historical and contemporary connections between understandings of the nation, the construction of identity, and forms of citizenship education in post-colonial Hong Kong. The questions he asks in this research are rooted in his experience of growing up, being educated, and working – as a young journalist – in Hong Kong, and his desire to make sense of such experiences for understanding both the local context and the wider issues of globalization and education which the local investigation opens up.”

BERA will publish aspects of Alvin’s dissertation in Research Intelligence, the BERA Blog, and Insights. We congratulate Alvin on his award and look forward to featuring his work in the coming months.
