Travelling by train
It’s easy to travel by train to The University of Manchester due to our proximity to three large rail stations.
We are located close to both Piccadilly main line station (about two and a half hours from London) and Oxford Road train station, with Victoria train station a little further away.

Piccadilly station to Oxford Road
The Oxford Road link bus (number 147) runs from Piccadilly Rail Station across the campus stopping at 14 locations and finishing at Grafton Street. This service runs on weekdays between 7.15am and 6.45pm, at ten-minute intervals, and can be caught from the Fairfield Street entrance to Piccadilly Station.
A taxi from Piccadilly Station to the Oxford Road area of the campus will cost you about £5.
Oxford Road station to Oxford Road campus
To get to the Oxford Road area of the campus, go down the station approach to Oxford Road and turn right. The campus is a 10- to 15-minute walk. Alternatively, buses stop outside the Palace Hotel.

Oxford Road area
Please note: drivers heading into the city on Oxford Road are now unable to travel past Hathersage Road between 6am and 9pm, seven days a week. Instead you’ll need to reroute, by turning right on to Hathersage Road before continuing their journey along Upper Brook Street.
To accommodate the permanent changes to Oxford Road, Upper Brook Street has been improved to provide drivers with an alternative route. Local access to Oxford Road will be maintained from adjoining roads and signage in place to help everyone navigate the area.
Oxford Road will ultimately become a bus, hackney carriage, emergency vehicle and cycle only route between Hathersage Road and Grosvenor Street (between 6am and 9pm, seven days a week). The change is being implemented by Transport for Greater Manchester, in partnership with Manchester City Council, as part of the transformational Grow project. Grow will see more than £1 billion invested into city centre infrastructure improvements by 2017, including the Metrolink Second City Crossing, bus priority measures, six new and better cycle routes into the city centre and major rail improvements.

Parking
The multi-storey car parks at both Booth Street West and Charles Street offer paid public parking and are convenient and safe.
Please note that when special events are on (eg graduation, weekday open days), parking is extremely limited. We strongly recommend that you use public transport to reach campus at these times, unless travelling by car is essential.
Access to the Car Park D (Booth Street West car park) has changed and is now from Higher Cambridge Street for the duration of development work at the Alliance Manchester Business School.

Travelling by air
If you plan to travel by air to The University of Manchester, our nearest airport is Manchester Airport.
Manchester Airport is one of the largest and busiest in the country. It is located about 10 miles (16km) south of the city centre, about 30 minutes from the University.
The airport has a number of transport links to the city:
- Train – The airport’s two terminals are linked directly to the city centre by a fast, frequent 24-hour train link to both Piccadilly and Oxford Road stations.
- Taxi – A taxi from the airport to the University will cost approximately £20.
- Bus – Local buses also run to the Oxford Road and Sackville Street areas of the campus.
Most major airlines fly to and from Manchester.
