BERA Council Member on BBC Big Questions
10 June 2016
BERA is delighted to report that BERA Council Member Dr Nicola Rollock was on BBC Big Questions earlier this week discussing the motion: “Are white working class boys discriminated against?”
Dr Nicola Rollock argued against the motion, insisting that while there were serious issues affecting the social mobility of white working class boys, the debate needed to address wider considerations of what was meant by ‘discrimination’ and how privileged groups in society obtain and protect their positions. She was joined by Alexander Proud (restaurant owner & columnist), Jane Fae (The Guardian) and opposing the motion Martin Daubney (Telegraph), James Bloodworth (Author, The Myth of Meritocracy) and Professor Peter Beresford (University of Essex).
The programme (Series 9: Episode 19) is available to watch till the end of June 2016 http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b07g7yg8/the-big-questions-series-9-episode-19 and comments on twitter can be found at #bbctbq or @bbcbigquestions.
