This SIG covers both initial and continuing professional education, training and development; informal as well as formal learning in a range of contexts. The emphasis is on common issues across the professions, such as the design of programmes of professional preparation, professionals in learning organisations, epistemologies underpinning professional practice, and the implications of part-time and temporary employment.
The aim is to promote and discuss research into theoretical perspectives across the professions. We seek to situate professional education, training and development within the changing pattern of relations between the professions and society, with particular attention to the challenges of client-centred practice, keeping practice under review and continued professional learning.
