What are Fundamental British Values?
In England the new Teachers' Standards 2012 state that 'Teachers uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside school, by- showing tolerance of and respect for the rights of others;- not undermining fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs'.
These Standards and the Code of Professional and Personal Conduct apply to all teachers, those in the initial stages and those currently in employment.
The conference provides an opportunity for all those involved in• teacher education and development;

to discuss and develop an understanding of these aspects of the standards and what it means for teacher education, the teacher education curriculum and the future teacher workforce. There will be speakers from England, Scotland and Northern Ireland who will provide their perspective on this debate.
