‘UKIERI Outcomes: Strategies for Widening Participation and Social Cohesion amongst Diverse, Disadvantaged and Minority Groups in Higher Education’
This two day international conference is organised by the School of Education at the University of Hertfordshire, in collaboration with TATA Institute of Social Science, Mumbai, and will be of interest to academics and researchers interested in social cohesion, widening participation, intercultural learning and strategies for inclusion, retention and success in Higher Education. The theme “Strategies for Change” provides the focus for participant presentations at both the UK-based September 2010 conference, and a follow-up conference at TATA Institute of Social Science, Mumbai, India, in November 2010.
Keynote addresses include:
Dr Raj Chand MD, Vice-Chair Anti-Caste Discrimination Alliance, who will explore issues of
‘Caste and Caste Discrimination in the UK: The Example of Education’ .
Professor Chris Hockings, University of Wolverhampton, who will address issues surrounding ‘Inclusive Learning and Teaching in Higher Education’ .
Professor Mary Thornton and the UKIERI Project Team, who will present the outcomes of their collaborative study of ‘Widening Participation: Diversity, Isolation and Integration in Higher Education’.
